The challenge was to extend this prominent house while maintaining its character. The existing staircase had daylight pouring in from a first floor side window, but the extension had to be two stories. The solution was to arrange the first floor as two pavilions separated by a small conservatory which maintained daylight to the staircase. Cast Bath stone gable parapet blocks were designed in the spirit of the existing building.
